New ways of advertising via mobile phones is increasing in the UK. You can now download video clips, images and interviews about bands from special advert screens at mainline train stations in London. The technology works through Bluetooth which seeks out suitably equipped mobile phones which it discovers in the vicinity of the ad. Relevant info can then be sent to the user if they choose to receive it. This has become known as 'BlueCasting'.

Traveling on the Underground the other week, I noticed a series of teaser ads. What made them stand out were their lack of any branding, copy or slogans. Instead each ad depicted a scene from everyday life – a girl watering the garden, an old lady on roller skates, a guy just standing in a lift. What were these teasers for? The almost mundane way in which they were shot was complemented by the fact that something unusual was surely supposed to happen in them. There had to be more to this, at least for the money spent on it. This is what made them intriguing (enough to jot down here at least) and it was only a few days later that all became clear. A triangle, a circle, a cross and a square – cleverly integrated within a new photographic composition and aggravating the same poor subject. I should have guessed it from the start, Sony had done well with the launch of it's PSP.
